Afro Innovation Group Sound Project Update: October 2024

Writer's picture: Afro Innovation LeicesterAfro Innovation Leicester

It has been just over a month since we launched the Sound Project on September 7th, 2024 and we’re excited to share how the journey has been progressing!

The Sound Project aims to empower refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in Leicester through the transformative power of music. Every week, participants have been coming together to learn and develop their musical skills, whether it be on the drums, piano, guitar or through jamming and percussion sessions. With guidance from skilled tutors, the participants have shown incredible progress and we’re excited to see how far they will go!

What’s Happening in the Sessions?

  • Drums : Led by Emmanuel, participants are mastering rhythm and technique on various types of drums.

  • Piano/Keyboard : Under the guidance of Ramelle and Tom, students are learning piano fundamentals and developing their creativity.

  • Bass Guitar : Amini is teaching participants how to create those deep, soulful bass lines.

  • Acoustic Guitar : Tom’s acoustic guitar sessions are helping students perfect their strumming patterns and chord progressions.

  • Percussion & Jamming : Felix is leading collaborative jamming sessions, bringing everyone together to create music as a group.

How’s It Going So Far?

The participants’ progress has been inspiring, with everyone showing dedication and enthusiasm in mastering their instruments. We’ve seen an incredible sense of community as participants not only learn from their tutors but also support each other. The atmosphere during the sessions has been filled with creativity and collaboration.

We’re also preparing for a final performance, which will give participants the chance to showcase all the skills they’ve learned. We can’t wait to see how far everyone has come by then!
