We provide housing-focused casework for individuals and families who are homeless, at risk of losing their home or struggling to navigate housing systems.
Our support focuses on homelessness prevention, practical housing navigation and advocacy, helping people understand their options and engage with local authorities, housing providers and specialist services.
How we can help
Support is shaped around each person's circumstances and may include:

Support for newly recognised refugees facing time-limited move-on pressures

Help navigating barriers to private tenancies, including deposits, guarantors and bank access

Warm referrals to specialist homelessness, tenancy sustainment and legal advice services

Structured follow-up where housing problems involve safeguarding risks or other complex needs
Where specialist intervention is required, we help people connect with appropriate services and partners.
Common issues we see
Housing problems rarely happen in isolation. Through our casework, we regularly support people experiencing:

Our role is to help people understand the next steps, advocate where appropriate and connect them with the services needed to move their situation forward.

This service is available to individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity, with particular support for:

Refugees, asylum seekers and migrants

Families with children

People who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness

Individuals experiencing safeguarding risks

People leaving asylum accommodation without secured housing

Those facing multiple or complex barriers
Housing support is delivered alongside our wider BASE+ advice and casework programme, allowing us to respond where housing problems overlap with welfare, financial hardship, safeguarding or access to other essential services.
Our housing suport in numbers
From May 2024 to June 2025, AIG supported 1,025 cases through the delivery of our BASE+ Programme.
During this period:

371 families and 64 individuals were supported into temporary accommodation

33 people were supported to access private sector housing
-
107 people were supported to settle into new homes
-
84 people were supported to address housing-related debts
These outcomes show the range of support required – from responding to immediate homelessness through to helping people establish and maintain more stable housing.
Case study
An Iranian Kurdish mother and her 10-year-old son experienced sexual abuse while living in asylum accommodation. Following a referral from NHS services, AIG intervened, advocating with housing providers and relevant agencies to challenge unsafe conditions and delays. As a result of this sustained support, the family was moved into safe and suitable accommodation.
