Advice, Casework & Immigration

BASE+ Project

BASE+ is our core programme and primary point of access, providing practical advice, advocacy and person-centred casework to help people overcome urgent barriers and move towards stability and opportunity. It supports refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and wider BAME communities across Leicester and Leicestershire.

How we can help

Support is shaped around each person's circumstances and may include:

  • Advice and triage for urgent or complex issues

  • One-to-one casework across housing, welfare and other immediate needs

  • Advocacy with statutory services and other agencies

  • Immigration-related guidance and signposting to appropriate specialist support

  • Form-filling and digital support, including help understanding letters, deadlines and processes

  • Safeguarding and crisis response where someone may be at risk

  • Warm referrals to trusted legal, health and specialist services

  • Structured follow-up where a situation requires ongoing casework

 

Where we cannot provide specialist support directly, we help people connect with an appropriate service rather than leaving them to navigate the next step alone.

Making support easier to access

Not everyone can easily access advice through a single location or service.

Alongside support from our Leicester centre, BASE+ includes outreach advice clinics and partner-led access points across the county, helping us reach people who may otherwise face barriers to getting support.

​

We also provide group and peer support opportunities, including employability-focused sessions, helping people build confidence, reduce isolation and access opportunities beyond an immediate crisis.

Who we support

BASE+ supports people experiencing barriers, including:

  • Housing insecurity, homelessness or destitution risk

  • Welfare benefit problems and financial hardship

  • Immigration and asylum-related challenges

  • Safeguarding concerns

  • Mental health and wellbeing pressures

  • Language barriers and digital exclusion

  • Employment barriers

  • Difficulty accessing essential or statutory services

 

We prioritise people whose circumstances may place them at greater risk, including refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, individuals with safeguarding concerns and families facing several overlapping challenges.

What we want to achieve

Our support is designed to help people move beyond the immediate problem and towards greater stability.

 

Through BASE+, we aim to:

  • Improve safety and stability through practical problem-solving and advocacy

  • Improve access to essential services and appropriate specialist support

  • Reduce isolation by connecting people with AIG, community networks and partner services

  • Build confidence navigating systems and understanding available options

  • Create pathways into learning, volunteering and employment where appropriate

Support Delivered (June 2024 – May 2025)

Figures shown include staff-recorded and staff-estimated outcomes documented within the independent interim evaluation of BASE+ (July 2025). We continue to strengthen our monitoring systems to ensure consistent, high-quality reporting across all programmes.
