Health, Wellbeing & Mental Health

We support people experiencing barriers to healthcare, mental health support and community-based wellbeing services.

Our approach combines practical health navigation, advocacy and culturally sensitive support, helping people understand healthcare systems, access appropriate services and stay connected where isolation, trauma or wider pressures are affecting their wellbeing.

How we can help

Support is shaped around each person's circumstances and may include:

  • Support navigating NHS services, appointments and referral processes

  • Help understanding medical letters, forms and healthcare information

  • Assistance completing relevant forms and documentation

  • Guidance preparing for appointments where appropriate

  • Advocacy where administrative or other barriers are affecting access to care

  • Warm referrals to specialist mental health, health and community services

  • Signposting to wellbeing groups, safe spaces and community initiatives

  • Support reconnecting with services where someone has become disengaged

Where someone's needs require clinical or specialist support, our role is to help them access the appropriate service and provide a safer, clearer route into that support.

Common barriers we see

Accessing healthcare can become much harder when someone is also navigating unfamiliar systems, language barriers, trauma or wider instability.

Through our work, we regularly see people experiencing:

  • Difficulty understanding how to access NHS and other health services

  • Language or digital barriers affecting appointments and communication

  • Difficulty understanding medical letters or referral processes

  • Trauma, anxiety and mental wellbeing pressures

  • Social isolation and limited community support

  • Mistrust or misinformation leading to disengagement from services

  • Health inequalities linked to migration or exclusion

  • Safeguarding concerns alongside physical or mental health needs

  • Overlapping housing, welfare, financial and health pressures

Our role is to help people understand their options, reduce practical barriers and connect with appropriate healthcare, mental health or community support.

Who we support

This service is available to people experiencing barriers to healthcare, mental health or wellbeing support.

We particularly support:

  • Refugees, asylum seekers and migrants

  • People experiencing trauma, anxiety or isolation

  • Individuals facing language or digital barriers

  • People at risk of disengaging from healthcare services

  • Survivors of abuse requiring appropriate mental health support

  • Families navigating several support systems at the same time

  • People whose health needs overlap with safeguarding or other complex circumstances

This work also connects with our BASE+ Programme and wider wellbeing initiatives, helping people access additional support where health concerns form part of a more complex situation.

What we want to achieve

Our support focuses on removing practical barriers to healthcare while helping people access appropriate support before difficulties escalate.

Through this work, we aim to:

  • Increase engagement with healthcare services

  • Reduce missed appointments and administrative barriers

  • Improve access to culturally sensitive mental health and wellbeing support

  • Create safer referral pathways where vulnerability or safeguarding concerns are identified

  • Reduce isolation through connection with appropriate community support

  • Help people better understand and navigate healthcare systems

  • Support earlier intervention before problems develop into a wider crisis
