Summary
Grants available: £1,000 (fixed)
Who can apply: Community groups and small organisations in Leicester & Leicestershire
Deadline: 9 March 2026
Purpose: Community-led activities that capture and share African diaspora heritage

Afro Innovation Group has launched the Afro Heritage Project - Community Grants Scheme.
The scheme will award up to 10 grants of £1,000 to support community-led heritage activities that capture, share and preserve African diaspora heritage across Leicester and Leicestershire.
These grants are designed to support grassroots ideas, including first-time applicants, and to recognise heritage as it is lived day to day through stories, memories, food, language, faith, music and community life.
Funded projects should benefit the community and contribute learning or outputs (with consent) to the wider Afro Heritage Project, helping to build a shared and inclusive heritage archive.
Activities could include:
community heritage events or celebration days
oral history or storytelling sessions
intergenerational heritage activities
documenting everyday heritage such as recipes, photographs or objects
The application process is intended to be clear, accessible and proportionate, with light-touch monitoring and support available for applicants who need it.
