We’re pleased to share that all four videos from the Afro Heritage Project’s Black History Month Museum Takeover at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery are now available to watch on our YouTube channel.
Filmed and edited by our partners at Swahili Media Network, the videos capture the atmosphere, energy and community spirit that filled the museum on 11th October, a day celebrating African heritage in the heart of Leicester.
Across the four videos, you’ll see:
the opening moments of the takeover as visitors arrive
traditional performances, including Swahili singing and Zanzibari dance
cultural highlights from artists and community members
joyful scenes of people coming together in music, movement and celebration
These recordings offer a visual snapshot of a day that brought stories, heritage, and lived experiences to life through performance, conversation and shared connection.
You can view all four videos on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@AfroInnovationGroup
About the Afro Heritage Project
The Afro Heritage Project is an ongoing initiative supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Its aim is to document, preserve and share the histories of African communities in Leicester, from the 1940s to the present day.
By collecting stories, objects and memories directly from community members, the project ensures African heritage is represented, understood and passed on to future generations.
The Museum Takeover Day and these videos are part of that work.
